New Delhi: Showcasing India gate on one side and people with masks on their faces on the other side, all surrounded with smog, internationally acclaimed and Padma Awardee, Sand Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, created a sand sculpture at Puri beach in Odisha which flashes the unfortunate plight of lakhs of people living in the national capital Delhi. With the strong message ‘Our Healthy Life Is In Our Hand, #BeatPollution,’ the artist created the sand art in order to appeal to the people on why they should come together and fight Air Pollution.

Sudarsan Pattnaik says,

As #smog engulfs Delhi, appeal all to everyone to Beat Pollution individually.

Air Pollution is choking the national capital since Tuesday as air quality reached hazardous levels which environmental agencies consider unfit for inhalation even by healthy people. According to the US embassy website, the levels of the smallest and most harmful airborne pollutants, PM 2.5 and PM 10 has reached 676 in the city, which is about 27 times the World Health Organization’s safe limit.

Though Delhi government has taken steps to combat the air pollution in the city like ban on construction activities and entry of heavy vehicles in the city, but pollution levels have not relented and remained high.

Sudarsan Pattnaik’s art work is again a reminder that concerted effort from all sections of the soceity is needed to combat Air Pollution. The artist is originally from Odisha and is well-known for creating series of intricate sand sculptures highlighting issues that are of national importance.

Some of his recent artwork includes messages of ‘Say No To Open Defecation’, ‘Stop Littering’ and ‘Save Our Oceans’.
