With The Capacity To Accommodate 2000 Patients, Ahmedabad Creates The Largest COVID-19 Care Centre In The Country  

New Delhi: Out of the 930 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gujarat, the financial capital of Ahmedabad accounts for more than 500 cases. Owing the the largest number of cases in the city, Ahmedabad civic body has set up the country’s largest COVID-19 Care Centre that has a capacity to accommodate 2000 patients, who are not suffering from any underlying health issues, the official said,

We can accommodate 2,000 patients in this facility, which is the first and the largest COVID Care Centre in the country, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra told NDTV.

He further explains that the patients admitted at the COVID-19 care centre will be provided with a separate bed and a separate kit containing essential items like a soap, a toothbrush and a bucket, among others.

The facility in question was created in a hostel near the well-known Gujarat University Complex and is expected to help with the load of COVID-19 patients on government hospitals, a civic body official said.

AMC has created largest model Covid Care Center in India with 2000 beds. With fully furnished rooms, Free WiFi, telephone, indoor games, a community radio, yoga room, library, TV rooms, music on demand – the place will be just like home for every patient, tweet reads.

Patients will also be served meals which will not be cooked at the centre, confirmed an official.

When it comes to monitoring and treatment, medical teams will examine the patients twice in a day and the personnel will remain stationed in the building with an objective to prevent the spread of the viral infection. For any emergency, one ambulance has been stationed at the care centre the administration explained.

Medical teams will also be tested every 14 days for the infection, Mr Nehra said.

According to the administration of Ahmedabad, marked as a hotspot by the Union Health Ministry, the state government has conducted as many as 20,204 COVID-19 tests till date. An administration official told NDTV,

For every million, we have conducted 267 tests, much higher than the national average of 177 tests per million, Mr. Nehra claimed.

When it comes to the result of lockdown on the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, data suggests that there has been a negligible impact in Gujarat.

Initially, the infection was reported to double every five days but by the end of the third week of lockdown, the state is reporting the doubling of infection every two days. Gujarat currently has 930 cases and nothing seems to be working as of now to reduce the transmission rate in the state.
