New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people not to take coronavirus lightly and follow the rule of wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing till scientists develop a vaccine. While addressing the national launch of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and several other initiatives in Bihar via video conference, he said,

I have certain expectations from each one of you. That is to follow the rule of wearing a mask and adopt Do Gaj ki Doori (a distance of two yards).

Further urging people to remain safe and healthy during this unprecedented times, PM Modi further added,

Be safe and remain healthy. Take care of senior citizens in the family. These things are important. Do not take coronavirus lightly.

He also said, till scientists develop a vaccine for COVID-19 the only way forward is through social distancing. He added,

It is the best way to save ourselves from coronavirus. This is the only solution for now.

Along with PM Modi, actor Abhishek Bachchan who has recently recovered from COVID-19, cited his personal experience, also urged everyone to wear a mask amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Sharing a short video on his social media, he 44-year-old actor said,

Don’t take this virus lightly. Whenever you go out, or you are with somebody, keep your mask on, guys. It’s important, don’t take it lightly. Be safe.

The actor was the last member of the Bachchan family to return home after testing positive for COVID-19 in July 11. He tested negative for coronavirus on August 8.

the other members of the Bachchan family who contracted the virus include Abhishek’s father and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, his wife, Actor and Former Miss World – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and his daughter Aaradhya.

Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan who has resumed work post COVID-19 recovery also shared a behind the scenes picture from the set of Kaun Banega Crorepati and urged everyone to be safe when they resume work. He said,

Be safe, be in precaution. Work continues as must it should.

Actor Anupam Kher also took to social media and shared a video message asking people to be extra vigilant during this time. He added,

Friends, India is unlocking itself. Facilities across the country have started to open up, we are seeing life is coming back on track. But #COVIDー19, an epidemic is still not over. India is seeing even more cases of coronavirus, we have started to see more deaths due to COVID. If we all want to live a healthy life for next 50 years or so, then let’s not forget that COVID has not gone away. Let’s all bring back the time when we were all very careful from this virus and taking all the necessary precautions. Let’s continue to wear mask, maintain social distancing and good hand hygiene. It is very important to be vigilant during this period.

India’s Coronavirus Cases So Far

On Monday (September 14) India saw a single-day spike of 92,071 cases, which has pushed India’s coronavirus tally past the 48 lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The death count has risen to 79,722 with 1,136 more fatalities in 24 hours.

As of today, some 37,80,107 patients have recovered from the infection in the country. India’s coronavirus recoveries have witnessed a steep rise – from 50,000 in May to over 36 lakh in September, the Health Ministry said on September 13, adding that more than 70,000 recoveries have been reported every day. The country has been reporting the highest number of new coronavirus cases in the world with an average of 90,000 cases per day since September first week.

NDTV – Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign is an extension of the five-year-old Banega Swachh India initiative helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. Only a Swachh or clean India where toilets are used and open defecation free (ODF) status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and become a Swasth or healthy India.
