After the new rate comes into effect for garbage collection, every house will have to pay that fixed amount to ragpickers. It is being said that for households, the prices will be fixed between Rs 50 and 100, for commercial units, it will be Rs 50.

Meeting is currently being held we plan to come out with the rates soon, said Gurbax Rawat, Area Councillor in Chandigarh.

Taking cue from other successful cities like Pune, Mumbai and Vishakhapatnam, the local bodies will also adopt the best model of waste segregation and collection of garbage. These activities are being carried out after Chandigarh’s sharp drop in rank in the Swachh Survekshan 2017 to 11 from its previous ranking of 2.
