International Day Of Yoga 2022: Things To Know

The 8th edition of International Day of Yoga will be celebrated globally, keeping in mind the spirit of fitness and health. This year Ministry of AYUSH has chosen the theme as "Yoga for Humanity". The theme also appropriately portrays how yoga served humanity in alleviating suffering during the peak of the pandemic.

The main event of the International Day of Yoga 2022 demonstration will be held at Mysuru, Karnataka. Where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be leading the Yoga Day celebrations from the heritage city of Mysuru. More than 15,000 people will participate in the Yoga celebrations along with the Prime Minister.

Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will also be accompanying the Prime Minister from Mysuru for the event. He has said that a flagship programme in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs is being organised for a mass Yoga Protocol world over on IDY 2022 following the movement of the Sun.

The 8th edition of International Day of Yoga will witness an innovative programme named "Guardian Ring", which will showcase the movement of the sun. Participation of people performing Yoga will take place along with the movement of the sun from different countries, beginning from the east and marching towards the west.

The Ministry of Ayush in coordination with different Yoga organisations is holding CYP demonstrations at over 100 places in Delhi in sync with the main event led by Prime Minister. The Ayush ministry is also employing digital and other platforms created for this purpose.

On September 27, 2014, in a speech at the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi first floated the idea of International Yoga Day. The draft resolution passed by India was supported by 177 nations. With universal recognition and growing popularity of Yoga, the United Nations commence June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
