NDTV And Dettol’s Banega Swasth India Campaign Launch With Amitabh Bachchan

NDTV and Dettol come together to launch the Banega Swasth India campaign with Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan and NDTV's Prannoy Roy. After leading a very successful Swachhta (Cleanliness) Initiative for five years, this year we move the conversation from Swachh to Swasth (Health).

"A lot has been achieved in five years of Banega Swachh India campaign," said Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan as he set the agenda for the Swachh to Swasth initiative.

The panellists at the Banega Swasth India launch, for the discussion on the status of child health in India included Gaurav Jain, Senior Vice President, Africa, Middle East and South Asia (AMESA), RB Health India, Dr Hemalatha, ICMR, Sanjeev Kapoor, Celebrity Chef and Nutritionist, Manisha Mhaiskar, Principal Secretary (Urban Development), Maharashtra, Shweta Shalini, Executive Director Maharashtra Village Transformation and Advisor to Chief Minister Maharashtra, Neeraj Jain, Country Head, PATH along with NDTV's Dr. Pranoy Roy and the Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan.

The vision of Clean India will be incomplete till we become healthy, says Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan.

'There has been a change in the attitude of the people given whatever the government has been able to do by putting up more than 10 crore toilets in the country,' Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan joins the discussion on Banega Swasth India launch event.

Sanitation is number one priority. India cannot grow without focussing and improving on health and sanitation. The challenge is about taking this issue of health and nutrition and making it a 'jan andolan' (people's movement) as health actually involves 40 per cent sanitation, 40 per cent health and 20 per cent food, states Niti Ayog's Amitabh Kant at the launch of Banega Swasth India campaign.

Parameswaran Iyer, Secretary, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation joined the Banega Swasth India launch. He said that a WHO study has found that lives of more than 3 lakh children in the age below 5 would be saved by the end of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) campaign.

Women can be saved by changing the cooking pattern. Over one million women die due to smoke from cooking. No food can be tasty unless the basic tenets of hygiene are maintained noted Sanjeev Kapoor, Celebrity Chef and Nutritionist at the launch.

Banega Swasth India unveils the 'Swasth Box' which is a kit that has been put together by NGO Smile Foundation for new mothers keeping their health requirements in mind for the crucial 45 days after delivering a baby.

Rapper Naezy performs the Banega Swasth India anthem, says, "I am concerned for the health of the people. Through my hip-hop music, I can send a message. The youngsters will listen to my lyrics and help make a difference."

Chalo Chalien Anagwadi in Rajasthan are promoting the practice of handwashing in a unique way by fashioning a small device called ?Tipi-tapi water taps'. They are also utilising the traditional festivals and practices followed during pregnancies in various communities to promote nutrition and hygiene.
