For World Environment Day, Government Comes Up With #SelfieWithSapling Initiative

To mark 46th World Environment Day with the theme Beat Air Pollution, the government has launched #SelfieWithSaplings initiative asking people to contribute towards the planet by planting more and more trees

New Delhi: ‘For World Environment Day, I am happy to launch #SelfiewithSapling campaign, an initiative where I want to appeal to people to plant saplings around them and click selfies and then share it with us on social media using hashtag #SelfieWithSapling,’ said Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadkar as he urges people across the country to participate in this initiative and help Beat Air Pollution, which is also this year’s theme for world environment day.

Further explaining the initiative, Mr Javadkar said, “Through this program, we want to create awareness among people on why it is important for each one of us to start taking care of our planet. The government believes that environmental protection is not only a government program but a people’s program and through this initiative, we are ensuring people’s participation.”

Mr Javadkar also highlighted details of the June 5 event that is expected to be held at Paryawaran Bhawan headquarters to mark 46th World Environment Day, he added,

On June 5, at Paryawaran Bhawan headquarters, Kapil Dev and Jackie Shroff will also participate in this campaign and plant trees to help spread the message. Let’s all come together and make this initiative a huge success, signs off the minister.

This is not the only initiative that has been taken for World Environment Day, earlier, Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Bhamla Foundation, a Mumbai based non-governmental organisation (NGO), produced an official anthem for the day – ‘Hawa Aane De’ with an aim to highlight the steps that people can take at their level to reduce air pollution.

About World Environment Day

The World Environment Day was first conceptualised in 1972, during the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Two years later, in 1974 the first world environment day was marked with the theme “Only One Earth”. The theme for World Environment Day 2019 is “Air pollution”. In 2018, India was the global host with the theme Beat Plastic Pollution. This time, China is hosting the World Environment Day with the call to action Beat Air Pollution.

NDTV – Dettol Banega Swachh India campaign lends support to the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). Helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan, the campaign aims to spread awareness about hygiene and sanitation, the importance of building toilets and making India open defecation free (ODF) by October 2019, a target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014.     We have designed a modular tray to make and help roofs turn into green roofs thus helping the environment. And a lot of other benefits. We need investment in mold making and machinery. The project cost is about 50 lakh . The land component is available. If you could be of help then we can help convert roofs into green roofs
