India Reports Over 9,000 Fresh COVID Cases, Active Cases Sees A Dip

The active cases in India now comprise 0.14 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.68 per cent.

New Delhi: India has logged 9,629 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases have decreased to 61,013 from 63,380, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Wednesday (April 26). The country reported 29 new fatalties, taking the death toll to 5,31,398. The daily positivity rate in the country has been recorded at 5.38 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 5.61 per cent. The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.49 crore.

The active cases now comprise 0.14 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.68 per cent.

Here are the states that have reported the maximum number of coronavirus cases.

DELHI

Delhi recorded 1,095 fresh COVID-19 cases and six fatalities in the last 24 hours, while the positivity rate was recorded at 22.74, according to the Delhi Health Department. The death toll from the virus in Delhi has risen to 26,606. The total case tally is at 20,35,156. Earlier on Monday, the national capital recorded 689 fresh infections and three fatalities with a case positivity of 29.42 per cent.

MAHARASHTRA

Maharashtra logged 722 fresh COVID-19 cases and three fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of infections to 81,62,842 and the death toll to 1,48,507, according to the state health department. The fresh cases rose thrice compared to Monday when 226 infections were recorded in Delhi. No COVID-19 fatality was recorded a day before.

Among the cities, Mumbai reported 191 new COVID-19 cases, a sharp rise from 59 infections recorded a day before, and one fatality. With the new additions, the overall number of cases in the metropolis rose to 11,62,137 and the death toll to 19,762.

RAJASTHAN

Rajasthan reported 428 new Covid cases and three more deaths, officials said. The fatalities were reported from Jaipur, according to the health department. The new cases include 82 from Jaipur, 52 from Nagaur, 50 from Bharatpur, 39 each from Alwar and Chittorgarh and 26 from Sikar among other places. The active COVID cases in the state now stands at 3,549.

ODISHA

In view of containing the coronavirus spread in Odisha, the state government has made wearing face masks mandatory in all health facilities as the active COVID-19 caseload in the state crossed the 3,000 mark earlier this week. Odisha now has 3,086 coronavirus-infected patients, and 181 more were cured of the disease in the last 24 years, he said.

In a letter to all stakeholders, including chief district medical officers, the public health directorate said,

In view of the rising of COVID-19 cases both in the country and in Odisha and as part of adopting COVID appropriate behaviour in health institutions, it has been decided to enforce the use of masks in all the health institutions.

Public Health director Niranjan Mishra said the order applies to all healthcare providers during duty hours, all officials and others present in meetings. The health department had earlier said in an advisory,

If you experience symptoms like cold, cough, fever and sore throat, you should isolate yourself and go for a COVID-19 test. Wear a face mask properly wherever you go outside, avoid crowded places and maintain hand hygiene to protect yourself from coronavirus.

Nationally, the number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 4,43,23,045 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent.  According to the Union Health ministry, 220.66 crore doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
