Puducherry: Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi launched a NABARD funded project to revive the Sankarabarni river at nearby Manalipet village.

The project would be implemented in association with the villagers, delegates of Isha Foundation, and hydrological experts attached to the Public Works Department and other organisations, a Raj Nivas press release said.

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) would provide funds for the project, it said.

The release quoted Lieutenant Governor Bedi as saying that the decision to launch the project was taken during ‘World Water Day’ celebrations at the Raj Nivas on March 22.

Lieutenant Governor Bedi camped at the village and launched the project.

The release said the District Rural Development Agency would grant subsidy to construct toilets in houses to make the village open defecation free by June.
