India marks National Doctor’s Day on July 1, Politicians, Bollywood stars and sports personalities took to social media to pay tribute to the real heroes – our doctors

New Delhi: As India marks July 1 as National Doctor’s Day, people from across the board – Politicians, sports stars and Bollywood come together to thank the frontline warriors. Calling doctors “exceptional caregivers”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “They are saving lives by putting themselves in danger. India salutes our doctors, exceptional caregivers who are at the forefront of a spirited fight against COVID-19.” In the video posted, the PM said, “While mothers give birth, doctors ensure our rebirth. Doctors in protective gear (PPE) are like the representatives of God, as they treat patients with COVID-19 infection.”

President Ram Nath Kovind also took to social media to pay tribute to the frontline workers he said,

Best wishes to all doctors on #DoctorsDay. We express our gratitude to the doctors for their selfless service in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The nation admires and salutes your professionalism and sacrifice in the service of fellow citizens.

Sharing series of messages, Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu said,

On this Doctor’s Day, I pay my tributes to Dr. B.C. Roy, former Chief Minister of West Bengal & legendary physician, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of medical field in India.

Talking about the pandemic the world is dealing with and the selfless work of the doctors during this time, he added,

How many doctors and health workers have themselves been infected in treating Covid-19 patients. On the occasion of ‘Doctor’s Day’, take a pledge to give all possible support to your physicians. Respect, safety of our health workers are the responsibility of the society. On the occasion of this ‘Doctor’s Day’, I extend my heartiest congratulations to the medical community of the country who dedicated themselves to the service of humanity and wish you all the best. During the Corona epidemic, the country’s healthcare workers have protected the health of society as frontline warriors.

Apart from politicians, many sports personalities also came forward to thank our doctors. Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh thanking the real heroes said,

To our real heroes, thank you for your commitment to serve society, especially in these difficult times. We appreciate all your wonderful efforts. You are the embodiment of selflessness, compassion and love. #HappyDoctorsDay!

Saluting the doctors across India and the world, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar added,

On #DoctorsDay, let us all appreciate the 24/7 selfless efforts of our frontline doctors and pray for their safety & well being. They have always been our shield and refuge in any health crisis.

Former athlete P.T Usha posted a video message on her social media to salute the warriors. She said,

Doctors are life-givers & saviours, more so during these times of a pandemic. I’m grateful to all the doctors who treated me during my sports journey, supporting me in every way. A salute to all the doctors-the real heroes, for all that they have done for us. Happy #doctorsday!

Bollywood too came forward to share messages on National Doctor’s Day. Actor Madhuri Dixit posted a video message and said,

This year more than ever we need to appreciate & support our doctors & healthcare workers for their endless hours of hard work, dealing with stress & challenges as part of their job & staying away from their loved ones to serve the people in need. Thank you!

On the other hand, Actor Preity Zinta urged fellow citizens to help make the life of our doctors little easier by doing a small bit to beat the pandemic, she adds,

Actions always speak louder than words. The best way to thank and appreciate all the doctors and healthcare workers out there is by wearing Masks and keeping yourself and everyone around you safe. Spread love and not the virus .

Actor Salman Khan also took to his social media to pay tribute to doctors on the day. He said,

Aaj #DoctorsDay hai, meri taraf se saare doctors ko dil se shukriya. Aapke dedication, or aapke sacrifices k liye! Thank you for being the strongest pillars of our country in this pandemic!

In India, National Doctor’s Day was established by the Government of India back in 1991 in honour of the birth and death anniversary of the great physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. This day is organised by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), according to IMA, this year’s theme for the day is lessening the mortality rate of COVID-19 is dedicated to innumerable doctors who are serving during this pandemic in the primary and secondary care setups as well as the dedicated COVID care hospitals and making every single effort counts.
