World Water Day 2019: Ministers And Politicians Urge Netizens To Conserve The Precious Resource – Water

New Delhi: As the World observes 26th World Water Day on March 22, with a theme ‘Leaving no one behind’, politicians and leaders took to social media to spread the importance of conserving our natural resource – water and making it accessible to every individual on the planet. As per the recent reports, our country is facing its worst-ever water crisis. The government think-tank NITI Aayog states that some 600 million people in India are facing acute water shortage and highlights that the water crisis in the country is “only going to get worse” in the years to come. Here’s what the leaders have to say:

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said,

In sync with UN’s theme of “Leaving No One Behind”, under the leadership of honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Government is working tirelessly to provide clean and safe drinking water to every citizen. On #WorldWaterDay, let us take a pledge not to waste water. Every drop counts.

Highlighting the need to conserve water by reusing and recycling it, Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh adds,

Water is Punjab’s most precious and limited resource. On the occasion of #WorldWaterDay, let us all pledge to protect, conserve and recycle our water. My government stands fully committed to making water-use more efficient & we are working with Israel to draw a comprehensive plan of action.

Urging citizens not to disturb the natural resource – water in the country, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu said,

The biggest nature treasure, fresh water, critically important for the survival of all living beings. Greatest nature’s gift, constant replenish this by nature’s own cycle, thus we should never be short of water unless humans interfere nature’s own system, causing climate change.

He also added,

Water is an essential and integral part of living and nothing is possible without it. This World Water Day, I would urge all my fellow Indian’s to use this vital resource responsibly. #WorldWaterDay.

Chief Minister Of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot adds,

On this #WorldWaterDay, let us pledge to cultivate the habit of conserving, reusing and recycling water. #Water is the most precious gift of nature and every drop must be saved so that all can have clean water to drink. #SaveWater

Minister of State and Youth Affairs, Rajyavardhan Rathore says,

Safe water for all is a movement we must participate in. This World Water Day, let’s pledge to never waste a drop of water. Let’s pledge to be the change we wish to see. Let’s be mindful of our consumption. #SaveWater #WorldWaterDay #LeavingNoOneBehind

World Water Day: All You Need To Know

In 1992, March 22 was first officially added in the schedule 21 of United Nations Conference on Environment and Development as World Water Day, in the year 1993, the first World Water Day was observed. The focus of the day is on universal access to clean water and to raise awareness among people about the importance of saving water.

NDTV – Dettol Banega Swachh India campaign lends support to the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). Helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan, the campaign aims to spread awareness about hygiene and sanitation, the importance of building toilets and making India open defecation free (ODF) by October 2019, a target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014. Over the years, the campaign has widened its scope to cover issues like air pollution, waste management, plastic ban, manual scavenging and menstrual hygiene. The campaign has also focused extensively on marine pollution, clean Ganga Project and rejuvenation of Yamuna, two of India’s major river bodies.
