The omnipresent plastic bag is now posing an existential crisis for the planet. Every minute the world consumes 1 million plastic shopping bags and India is one of the highest consumers of plastics. Being non-biodegradable, it takes up to 1000 years to decompose and in its lifespan adversely affects the soil, water, and air. Calls for a plastic ban or more effective ways of recycling plastic have been doing the rounds across the globe for some time now. Today, actor Juhi Chawla asked people to change their habit of using a plastic bag and instead opt for an alternative. On Twitter, she urged people to make this green switch and said, “It’s time to make a change today for the citizens of tomorrow.”
