New Delhi: Ahead of the third anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, India’s sports fraternity, joined the mass movement of Clean India Mission and took a pledge to participate in the 15-day long ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’. Along with the sportspersons, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also made a request to the cricket fans to join the massive sanitation campaign by displaying the message on the screen that read “Leading up to Gandhi Jayanti on Oct 2, join Swachhata Hi Seva movement and dedicate some time for the cause of #MyCleanIndia” during the third ODI match between India and Australia in Indore.

Men’s hockey captain Manpreet Singh and women’s hockey captain Rani Rampal along with their respective teams joined the Gram Panchayat President of Kumbalgodu town, Karnataka and carried out a shramdaan (service) towards a Clean India.

Cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, best known for his consistency in test matches was recently invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the 15-day long campaign. The BCCI also tweeted a symbolic picture of the right-handed top-order batsman spreading the message of anti-littering.

Fast bowler from the Women’s cricket team, Jhulan Goswami, also pledged to join the nationwide campaign after she was invited by the Prime Minister. His letter said, “You are a symbol of Nari and Shakti and the Indian women’s cricket team is an inspiration to the nation. Your support for the nation’s efforts towards cleanliness will go a long way in impacting the lives of women positively.”

Former skipper of Women’s Cricket team Anjum Chopra tweeted, “Thank you Prime Minister sir @narendramodi for the honour. I remain committed to the cause of having @swachhbharat #SwachhtaHiSeva @PMOIndia,” after she received a letter from Prime Minister Modi.
A few days ago, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar along with son Arjun Tendulkar and Yuva Sena President Aaditya Thackeray were also seen with a broom doing a cleanup drive on the streets of Mumbai. Last year cricket captain Virat Kohli swept the Eden Gardens stands in Kolkata on October 2 marking the Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s 2nd anniversary.
