The results of Swachh Survekshan, 2017 will be announced on May 4, by the Ministry of Urban Development, it seems that Madhya Pradesh already has reason to cheer. According to a tweet from Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan eight cities of Madhya Pradesh have been selected in top 25 list of cities in the country based on cleanliness and sanitation. The Chief Minister congratulated the Municipal Presidents, Mayors and people of the state for their ‘Swachh’ efforts and added, “A very proud moment, 8 cities of MP have been selected in Top 25 list of #SwachhSurvekshan2017 for making great progress on cleanliness.”

In total 34 cities of Madhya Pradesh were reviewed on the basis of their sanitation and cleanliness index. The results show that sanitation has improved in many areas ever since PM Narendra Modi launched the Clean India mission in 2014.

The Progress Report Card
Madhya Pradesh’s overall sanitation coverage is 58.09 per cent in rural areas and there are about 54 lakh toilets in the houses.
Till now around 139 cities have been declared Open Defecation Free.
Madhya Pradesh’s Swachh Kadam
During the Swachh Survekshan 2016 which ranked 73 cities on the basis of cleanliness and sanitation, cities like Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior were ranked as cities that have potential to lead the pack. And now these cities are among the top 25 cities and towns that are cleanest in the country. Chairpersons of municipalities and mayors of municipal corporations of all these 8 cities will be honoured at New Delhi on May 4.
Key Findings of Swachh Survekshan 2017
Apart from Madhya Pradesh, results of the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2017’ have confirmed that there is a positive impact on cleanliness situation in urban areas under the Swachh Bharat Mission. 80% of people have also said in their feedbacks that there is an improvement in cleanliness over the past 2 years.

This year around 434 cities and towns, 17,500 locations, 2,680 residential locations, 2,680 commercial locations and 2,582 commercial and public toilets were reviewed under the Swachh Survekshan 2017 commissioned by the Ministry of Urban Development.
