NDTV's longest-running public health campaign is entering its eleventh season!
The Banega Swasth India campaign is a collaboration between NDTV and Dettol that promotes a clean and healthy India. Since 2014, NDTV-Dettol has been at the forefront of a ‘Swasth' change. For 10 remarkable years, the campaign touched lives, changed habits, and inspired a healthier nation.
Into its eleventh year, the BSI is continuing the journey of transformation with the campaign's heartbeat, ‘One World Hygiene - Fostering global unity for a healthier tomorrow'.

Use Of Consistent Antibiotics Will Increase Deaths: Dr Narendra Saini
Dr Narendra Saini, Chairman, AMR Standing Committee, Indian Medical Association, spoke about over usage of antibiotics.
"In 2019, 4.5 million deaths were caused by antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and if this trend continues, it is estimated that there will be 5 million deaths by 2050. The key to prevention is simple: maintaining proper hygiene," he emphasized.
Preventive Steps To Curb Climate Change Impact
"To prevent diseases, we must adapt our actions to the specific region. The upper and mid-Himalayan areas are more prone to flash floods, while other regions experience drought," advised Dr. Vartika Saxena, Professor and Head of Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS, Rishikesh.

Joining the NDTV-Dettol Banega Swasth India Season 11 launch, Magsaysay Awardee and Waterman of India, Rajendra Singh, said that due to water scarcity, the women's vitality is completely diminished. Water availability brings new energy into their lives. "Water is essential to everyone's health, as it provides well-being and vitality," he added.

Amruta Fadnavis, Banker and Social Worker, highlighted some of the key steps people can take at an individual level to create a mass impact.
"Sustainability is about minimalism and working in harmony with our environment. We can begin with small actions, like using a cloth bag instead of a plastic one," she said.
Reckitt And PLAN India Launches Hygiene Bot
Reckitt and PLAN India unveiled the Hygiene Bot at the launch of season 11 of NDTV-Dettol Banega Swasth India. The Hygiene Bot is an extension of the Hygieia game and is powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is a platform where children can ask questions about hygiene and sanitation. The bot is available in seven languages.
Actor Raveena Tandon On Educating Girls For Healthcare Change
Actor Raveena Tandon spoke about the importance of educating girls to bring about change in healthcare: "When girls are educated, they lead healthier and more productive lives, which also benefits their families. Unfortunately, due to certain social norms, some women remain uneducated. These women often only have access to the medical information shared with them, and they may not know whether that information is true or just a myth," the actor added.
"Wash, Wash, Wash Our Hands..." Children In Tamil Nadu Demonstrate Handwashing Practices
NDTV's Sam Daniel reports from Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli, to check the works on sanitation and hygiene by NGO Gramalaya.
"We aim to reach out to at least one crore children and train them to be good practitioners of handwashing," said Sai Damodaran, Founder & CEO, Gramalaya. He further said the NGO is going to reach one lakh schools going further. Children also sang the handwashing song and demonstrated good handwashing practices.
Scaling Up India's Healthcare: Insights From Indu Bhushan, Former CEO, Ayushman Bharat
Indu Bhushan, former CEO of Ayushman Bharat and Senior Associate at Johns Hopkins University, stated that every day, more than 50,000 treatments are provided free of charge to rickshaw pullers, farmers, and daily wage workers under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. "This initiative is helping many people avoid poverty and financial crises," he added.
Amitabh Kant On India's Presidency On Global Health Issues
Joining the season 11 launch, Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Sherpa, highlighted pointers discussed at the G20 Presidency. He said one of the key issues talked about was the need to closely examine the connection between climate and health and take necessary action. "For both, two things are required: community involvement and effective governance," he said.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari On Converting 'Waste Into Wealth'
"For our sustainable lifestyle, cleanliness is essential," said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways during the launch of Season 11 of Banega Swasth India campaign. He said that his ministry believes in creating 'value from waste'.
Talking about the work done so far, he said, "The Delhi-Mumbai highway, Chandigarh, and in other cities, we have used over eight million tonnes of waste for road construction. We are also assisting contractors in acquiring waste segregation machines."
"Healthcare Is Our Biggest Priority," Says Rahul Narwekar, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker
Rahul Narwekar, Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, spoke about the importance of public and private partnerships to ensure everyone has access to healthcare. Sanitation and good health should be a priority. He also said that the governments can only do so much. "We need individuals to step in and contribute to create significant change. The awareness about Yoga is a great example of this," he added.
Apollo's Sangita Reddy Discusses The Role Of Private Healthcare On Season 11 Launch
Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group, congratulated NDTV-Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign for entering into its 11th season. At the launch, she highlighted the crucial role of private healthcare. She said, "First, we need to create the infrastructure to treat, cure, and heal people so they can access healthcare more easily. At Apollo, our goal is to provide advanced healthcare to Indians and eliminate the need for them to seek care elsewhere."
Banega Swasth India's Impact On The Tribal People Of India
Dr Ashwini Khasbage, Taluka Health Officer, Malegaon spoke about the campaigns impact in her region. She said, "The tribal people in the region did not even know that they needed to wash their hands after defecation. After 7-8 years of consistent work of the campaign, the impact has been remarkable. Now, when my team and I visit, we see that the steps they follow for simple handwashing are impressive. There has been a noticeable change in behavior."
Sanitation Is Not Only For The Privileged: Actor & Director, Shriya Pilgaonkar
Sanitation and hygiene are the foundation of a person's quality of life, said Actor & Director, Shriya Pilgaonkar. She emphasized the dignity and importance of sanitation workers. It is essential for them to have equal access to sanitation facilities.
Zarina Screwvala Of Swades Foundation Joins The NDTV-Dettol Banega Swasth India Season 11 Launch
Zarina Screwvala, Managing Trustee, Swades Foundation, said that it is significant to recognize that when women in remote areas don't have toilets, they have to go to the fields at night. This further creates issues with their health, dignity, and safety. The Swades Foundation has been working on improving sanitation, she said.
"We built our first 100 toilets, starting with the first one in Songarh," she informed.
Reckitt’s Saurabh Jain On Shaping People’s Behaviors Towards Sanitation
Saurabh Jain, Regional Marketing Director & SPOC, South Asia, Reckitt Hygiene gave a detailed overview of the status of sanitation in India. Talking about Diarrhea, he highlighted three main causes: nutrition, sanitation, and hand hygiene. While a lot of work has been done on nutrition and hand hygiene, sanitation was mostly neglected until the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched, he said.
"Over the past 10 years, we have partnered with brands like Harpic and Dettol to make a positive impact and encourage better behavior," the Regional Marketing Director added.

Ravi Bhatnagar, Director - External Affairs and Partnerships, Reckitt, recalled the initial days when they started with the Swachh Bus. "We initially were focusing on some parts of India that were known as Bimaaru states and then further spread to other states. I am proud to say that we have touched 1 million schools across India," said Bhatnagar.

Joining the launch of NDTV-Dettol Banega Swasth India Season 11, Roderico Ofrin, World Health Organization, Representative to India said that poor sanitation is home to diseases. He further said, "According to 2019 data, the WHO estimated that globally, 1.4 million deaths are attributed to diarrhea. The Swachh Bharat Mission is the world's largest sanitation campaign aimed at achieving universal access to safe sanitation. India is making significant progress in this area."
Reducing Diarrhea Through Good Hygiene Habits: A Story From Chhatha Village Of The Mirzapur district
NDTV's Ravi Ranjan Shukla reports from a primary school in Chhatha village, Mirzapur district, on the status of diarrhea cases after the introduction of the Reckitt's Diarrhea Net Zero Kit. Sahil, a member of the team implementing the Net Zero program, stated that they are aiming to reach hard-to-access areas.
"We are focusing on reducing diarrhea through good hygiene habits with this program," he added.

Gulabi Didi, Mohini, spoke about the impact of Banega Swasth India camapign in Malegaon: "Previously, there was a lack of awareness about cleanliness in the village. After I went into the field and counseled families, there has been a significant change I have seen."
Games In The Dettol Hygiene Curriculum Are Simple And Easy To Teach: Meena Rathore, Principal of Primary School, Hazipur, Noida
"The games in the Dettol hygiene curriculum are simple and make it easy to teach children about germs and the importance of handwashing. Now, the children are equipped with valuable knowledge about health and hygiene," said Meena Rathore, Principal of Primary School, Hazipur, Noida.
What Have Children Of Varanasi Primary School Learnt From Dettol Hygiene Curriculum?
One of the primary schools in Varanasi, where the Dettol hygiene curriculum was implemented, celebrated the campaign's impact. Children shared how much they have learned about hygiene through the curriculum, using games and other interactive methods.
"I have learnt the importance of washing hands before eating, after eating, and after using the washroom," says Diksha, one of the students.

On the season 11 launch, Gaurav Jain, EVP Regional Director, South Asia, Reckitt said that partners like NDTV and teammates like Ravi Bhatnagar, Reckitt has successfully completed a 10-year journey and are now stepping into the 11th. "As a brand, this is our mission-to create a healthier India through the Banega Swasth India campaign," he added.
Cleanliness Is The Symbol Of Health: President Droupadi Murmu On Banega Swasth India Launch 11
Marking October 2, President Droupadi Murmu said that Mahatma Gandhi had taught the lesson of health for many years. In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accelerated the message and launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. "Banega Swasth India campaign is also doing the same, i am told. This is bringing about a change in people's behaviour," she further said.
