Make Maharashtra Open Defecation Free By October: CM To State Officials

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today directed district officials to send at least two proposals from each city under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna. The CM gave the directions during a review meeting about progress of various schemes with all the district collectors. The meeting was held through a video conference.

Projects for affordable housing, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and implementation of Right to Services Act were reviewed during the meeting.

Fadnavis directed that Collectors should send at least two proposals from each city under the PM Awas Yojna, and speed up the work to achieve the objective of housing for all, a statement from his office said.

It was also informed that 235 Municipal Councils/ Nagar Panchayats will be Open Defecation Free (ODF) by March-end, and entire Maharashtra will be made ODF by October 2017.

So far 3.45 lakh toilets have been constructed in Maharashtra and the government aims to construct more 1.75 toilets by October this year.
