‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Service for Sanitation) cleanliness drive began today ahead of the third anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The massive drive led by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation aims to mobalise people from all walks of life – from President Ram Nath Kovind, celebrities, politicians, faith leaders, corporate honchos and the aam janta urging them to end open defecation and undertakeshramdaan for cleanliness in tourist and public places.
The campaign will be launched by President of India where he will take the oath of Swachhata Hi Seva along with 2,50,000 plus gram panchayats and cities across the nation from Kanpur’s Ishwarigunj village that recently turned open defecation free (ODF).
Besides the main event in Kanpur, states heads including Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors are observing the fortnightly sanitation drive in different ways.
