New Delhi: To fight coronavirus outbreak in India and break the chain of infection which has infected 562 people in the country and taken lives of 9 people (according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as of March 25, 9:15 am), Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a complete lockdown for 1.3 billion people of the country. In his second address to the nation on March 24, he said, “From midnight, the entire country will be in lockdown, total lockdown. To save India, to save its every citizen, you, your family… every street, every neighbourhood is being put under lockdown. Forget about leaving home in the next 21 days… If you cross the Lakshman Rekha, you will invite the virus home.”

PM Modi’s decision on the lockdown instantly took social media by storm, many Bollywood stars gave a big thumbs up to PM Modi’s decision and urged their fans to follow the mandate and help fight India war against the novel virus.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan wrote,

I humbly join my hands and urge, let’s all follow the orders of our Prime Minister. This 21-days lockdown or restriction will prove to be life-saving for each one of us.

Reiterating the message of staying home and following the necessary mandates by the government in this crucial time, Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor added,

One for all, all for one. Let us do what we have to do. We have no option. We will all keep one another busy and entertained for the coming time. No worries. No panic. PM ji don’t worry we are with you! Jai Hind.

Actor Shahid Kapoor, on the other hand, gave his fans ideas on how they can pass time during this lockdown and keep themselves entertained. He said,

Be at home. Stay safe. Stay mentally emotionally and physically strong. Spread love. Have faith. Pray often. Speak to all those who matter daily. Meditate. Read. Cook. See the sky turn bluer every day. 21 days. Will pass. Keep it real and make it count you all.

Actor Anil Kapoor added that this lockdown is for the betterment of each one of us. He said,

Please stay at home it’s the only way. This lockdown is for all of us and our safety. #IndiaFightsCorona #StayHomeStaySafe.

Actor Huma S Qureshi urged people not to panic-buy, she added,

Guys !! 21 days – We can do this !!! Please don’t go crazy stocking up things. Be safe everyone . This maybe the reset the earth needs so desperately. Please stay at home and stay safe and sane !!

Film Maker Mahesh Bhatt also requested every individual to listen and help the government in fighting the coronavirus outbreak. He said,

We are now at a collective turning point, where we must stop, listen & help the government implement the 21 days all India lockdown. The time of great fear requires solidarity,humanity, sacrifice & hope. Not hysteria & rumour mongering. #21daysLockdown

Coronavirus which belongs to a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases like a liver failure has till now taken lives of more than 18,000 people, globally. Moreover, the deadly infection has infected more than 4 lakh people around the world. In India, as of March 25 (9:15 am), 562 cases and 9 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
