Coronavirus Outbreak: Actor Akshay Kumar Appeals People To Take Lockdown Seriously And Stay At Home

New Delhi: “Every time I share my thoughts with you guys politely but, today, I am so annoyed that excuse me if I end up saying rude things. Have some people lost it? What has happened to people? Who doesn’t understand what a lockdown is? Lockdown means stay at home. Stay inside your home, stay with your family,” said Akshay Kumar in a video message posted by him on social media as an urge to people to comply with the government’s mandate to self-quarantine during this crucial time of coronavirus outbreak.

In his two minutes long video, Akshay Kumar further talked about coronavirus disease and said,

The world is going through an extremely difficult situation, this disease is not a joke. Stay at home and follow the rules. This will help you and your family stay safe. We all have waged a war against corona, we have to defeat it. Be a real ‘Khiladi’ of life by staying at home. And, wash your hands regularly.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Akshay Kumar wrote: “At the risk of sounding repetitive, sharing my thoughts…there is a lockdown for a reason. Please don’t be selfish and venture out, you’re putting others lives at risk. ?#StayAtHomeSaveLives.”

Akshay Kumar’s video came just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on March 24 in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in India. In the address PM Modi announced a 21 days lockdown in India, starting Tuesday midnight (March 25). PM Modi said that this lockdown is in a way a curfew and would be more stringent than the Janata curfew that was implemented on March 22. He said,

To break the chain of spread, 21 days of lockdown is absolutely necessary. If we don’t manage these 21 days, the country will be set back by 21 years. Some families will be destroyed forever.

This is not the first time the actor has voiced his support to fight the global pandemic. On the day of Janta Curfew, Akshay Kumar, along with the rest of the nation, cheered for COVID-19 fighters. He posted a video of himself, Hrithik Roshan and Sajid Nadiadwala on Sunday and wrote,

5 mins at 5 pm : With my neighbours taking a moment to appreciate those who do not have this luxury of staying at home and working tirelessly to keep us safe.

Coronavirus Outbreak 

Coronavirus, a highly infectious disease, which the World Health Organisation has termed as ‘Pandemic’, till now has taken lives of more than 18,000 people globally. Not just that, more than 4 lakh people, globally have been reported infected with the novel virus.

In India, as of March 25 (9:15 am) as per the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, 562 cases have been reported along with 9 deaths.

The virus had originated late last year in a food market in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and since then it has spread to more than 170 countries and affected millions of people.
