In A Bid To Make Juhu Swachh, Sonakshi Sinha Urges Fans To Participate In The Cleanup Activities

New Delhi: One of Mumbai’s favourite and dirtiest beach – Juhu gets a Swachh mascot. And it is not Mumbai’s beach cleanup man – Afroz Shah who removed more than 5.6 million kg trash from Versova. This time it is Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha who has urged all her fans and followers to participate in the cleanup activities and make Juhu clean and swachh.

On Sunday, the Dabangg actress took to Twitter and tweeted a post about why it is important for Mumbaikars to come forward and take steps towards cleaning the Juhu beach, “Hope there comes a day when we don’t mess it up, to begin with! Come on guys, join in to #freethebeach!”

However, this is not the first time Bollywood has come forward and campaigned for the beach cleanups. Last month, actress Dia Mirza, along with her husband Sahil Sangha, was seen as part of the Juhu Beach cleanup initiative.
It is estimated that more than 50,000kg of trash, mostly plastic, washes ashore at Juhu beach every day. Another problem is the untreated domestic and industrial waste which is discharged into the sea near the beach. All these problems, accompanied with the careless dumping of garbage on and near the beach by the people, results in excessive pollution, that makes Juhu one of the dirtiest beaches in Mumbai. The Water Quality Index of Juhu which is monitored by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MBPC) is 44, this surely indicates water there is polluted. (WQI between 38 and 50 is classified as polluted; a reading between 63 and 100 indicates clean water.)
