World Environment Day 2023: Bollywood Celebrities Urges Citizens To Do Their Bit To Save Mother Earth

New Delhi: On the occasion of World Environment Day, which is marked across the world on June 5, Bollywood celebrities took to their respective social media handles to talk about Mother Nature and the need for everyone to come together and take action towards preserving the environment. The celebs further highlighted the importance of saving the environment from plastic pollution and refusing the use of single-use plastics. Here’s what they said:

Actor and Climate Warrior Bhumi Pednekar, who has also recently become the National Advocate for United Nations Development Programme for Sustainable Development Goals in India, said,

Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay! #DYK? Household-related consumption contribute to 70% of greenhouse gas emissions globally.

Sharing what individuals can do, in a video message, she further said,

Imagine if one billion people cut down their contribution, are responsible and conscious about their eco-friendly practices. Then this number can go down by 20 per cent.

Ms Pednekar further added that climate action starts now. Sharing what individuals can do, she said,

Switch off that light, refuse the plastic straw, stop that leaky tap of yours. Take your carry bag with you. There is so much one can do at an individualistic level.

Ms Pednekar also highlighted her ways of refusing plastic, she said,

I carry my water bottle and cutlery where ever I go. I try and make my single-use plastic dependence to the minimum. You can do the same. This is our planet and we have to preserve and conserve it.

On the other hand, Actor and Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan took to twitter to talk about waste segregation and management, he said,

Simple actions can make a difference to protect the environment, such as – keep separate bins for wet and dry waste. When waste is segregated and recycled, it helps keep the environment cleaner for children.

Actor Alia Bhatt, who is also known for championing the cause of environment from many years now, shared a video of her initiative COEXIST on Instagram story and elaborated on quick things individuals can do to save the planet like skipping long showers, leaving taps on, leaving lights on and devices plugged on, buying non-local food, using private transport and using plastic products.

Actor Jackie Shroff who is known for making appearances at events by wearing a plant necklace or carrying saplings as gifts has been urging people to do their bit to save Mother Earth. On the occasion of World Environment Day, the actor shared a video with a valuable message. Taking to Instagram, Jackie posted a video along with a message, which read, “Go Green, Breathe Clean.”

In the video, he is seen urging people to stop littering around. In the pictures, Jackie can be seen posing with plants.
