Highlights: Banega Swasth India 12-Hour Swasthagraha, A Campaign For A Healthy India With Amitabh Bachchan
The 12-hour Swasthagraha is inspired by the Satyagraha that defined Mahatma Gandhi's struggle for not just India's Independence, but also showed the world the power of mobilising people to embrace truth and non-violence. To mark the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a Swasthagraha is being initiated to make India not just cleaner but also healthier.
Here are the Highlights of the Telethon:

Dr. Pramod Jog on Impact of Air pollution on children: One of the reasons for children being affected more than adults is that their lungs are still developing and also the respiratory rate of children is much higher than adults also they play outside and thus they inhale more air. Pollutants of small size like PM 2.5 is more harmful as the bigger pollutants get filter in the nose.
We have created a vaccine delivery kit which is easy for Auxiliary nurse midwife (ANMs) and grassroot workers to help them execute vaccinations. It is a complex design of s bag to keep the vaccines as per the temperature and condition it is required to be kept in
The whole planet needs that the rivers and the environment remain healthy. In India, the unique characteristic of our rivers is that most of these rivers are rain-fed. Curbing the flow of greywater into the rivers is the first step towards cleaning up the river. The ecological flow of rivers needs to be ensured and we have started to work on this, said the Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at the Swasthagraha
Anaemia is a silent killer. From 2014 till 2016, there was no difference, but from 2016 till now, there has been a downward trend. This was the first time in decades where anaemia could be controlled: Dr Indira Chakarvarty, Former Director and Dean, All India Institute of Hygiene and public Health, MOHFW
We believe in comprehensive primary healthcare services. We provide accessible, affordable and quality services through 40 smile vans. Early detection is the focus of these mobile vans that reaches the doorstep of the people. In a nutshell, prevention is the key: Dr Nisha Gupta, Health Advisor, Smile Foundation
This initiative of NDTV is not just any initiative, it is like worshiping. We believe that every Imam should start spreading awareness through their teachings. This is what we have started across the country in all mosques. Faith leaders have a very important role to play. I am the chief Imam of 5. 5lakh mosques in India and I sensitise people to realise Swachh Bharat and Swasth Bharat in every institution. Each one of has to come together to make these initiatives a success: Imam Umar Ilyasi
Reaching out to the people is a huge challenge in immunisation. There are 28,000 cold chain points from where immunisation is implemented but we still have not been able to reach out to 100 per cent of the people. To save children from dying, immunisation in critical and the present coverage is 70 per cent but we are determined to go for 100 per cent soon. Sometimes it is also the behavioural issues that acts as a barrier. There are 4 rotavirus vaccines and India has developed two of them. There are multiple vaccines in the pipeline; the process of developing a vaccine takes about 10 years: Neeraj Jain, Country Director India at PATH
Only 18 per cent of the villages were Open Defecation Free in 2014, whereas today all are ODF. We have trained 70,000 women as Rani Mistris and with the help of these women we were able to achieve the mission of making the state ODF. 'Swachh Jharkhand, Swasth Jharkhand' is our motto. We also aspire to become the first state of the country with the least amount of plastic waste and minimum plastic use: Raghubar Das, Chief minister, Jharkhand
In 2000, we started our mid-day meal programme but we did not have any idea that we were getting into an initiative of such a massive scale. Madhu Pandit Das, the founder, wanted no children in the 10 mile radius of our temple to go hungry and hence we started preparing meals in our temple kitchen: Swami Das From Akshaya Patra Foundation
- In 2014 when the Swachh Bharat campaign was launched, many people were skeptical. But today the campaign has reached a pan India level. The impact is very well visible.
- 95 lakh tonne of waste is produced every year in India. 38 lakh tonne goes in to rivers or landfills. Within this waste, plastic waste is not recycled or disposed of safely.
- Today we are facing such a water crisis, we must work on providing potable water in a targetted manner. Clean water and uncontaminated food need to be provided to people.
Prasoon Joshi: Organic is how life should be. But if you make it sound fashionable, people start considering it. Organic living has been in India for many generations. People have experimented with food since decades. It is important to focus on the food grown locally. Food grown locally in the same environment where we live is the best. Nutrition doesn't need to be costly. The right attitude towards eating can help you find affordable and very healthy nutrient-packed food.
Dr. Reddy on Swasthagraha: A long time ago when I visited some villages, I saw sadness and so we decided to do something to change this. Today, we measure the health parameters of all the people in the 170 hamlets we have adopted. The severe malnutrition and other deficiency diseases were very prominent. I am happy to say that this situation has changed. Today when a woman is pregnant, she is given care from very early on. Nutrition and cleanliness are extremely important during pregnancy. Our initiative is trying to make them healthy and happy.
Neha Dhupai: I have had the good fortune to donate breast milk. It is important that the nutrition of mother and children is given equal importance. Nutrition of a woman needs to be focussed on from the early childhood. Every action counts, start at your home, start at your building. The change comes with contribution from each individual.
Dr Swasti Maheshwari: It is important to support the mother to help them breastfeed. All the stakeholders including the government and society need to take the responsibility to help mothers breastfeed. Women need to be empowered with awareness and knowledge about breastfeeding.

Nitin Gadkari on success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: Politics should be kept of issues of cleanliness. A huge public campaign was needed to achieve a positive change. If hygiene and cleanliness is good, then I think the health of the people will be good and their spending on medical needs will be reduced.

Have these Celebrities individually donated for the cause which they are supporting? Why should we citizens after paying huge Income tax and while spending the taxed money, pay GST, should now look to such program and make payments. This is the work of Government and not Individuals. What after paying Swatch Bharat cess, are the cities clean. Instead why these celebrities not raising question with Government for not supporting this cause.
