New Delhi: On the occasion of World Health Day, celebrated every year on April 7 to raise global awareness of a specific health theme, celebrities including Bollywood stars took to social media and reminded their fans how important it is to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. At a time when the world is battling a pandemic for over a year now, it becomes crucial more than ever to look after one’s health and well-being. Urging people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, actor Madhuri Dixit, Kajol, Shilpa Shetty, Rakul Preet Singh, cricketer Yuvraj Singh, South star Samantha Ruth Prabhu, among others shared what ‘healthy living’ means to them.

Actress Madhuri Dixit shared two pictures and a video on Instagram that signifies her mantra of a healthy ‘mind, body, food and soul’ for a healthy life. In the first picture, the actress is seen sitting on the floor with her eyes closed, meditating. The following video shows the actress sweating it out in the gym and the final picture in the post features plates of fruits and veggies.

“Mind, body, food and soul… Let’s pledge for a healthy lifestyle #WorldHealthDay,” she wrote in the caption of the post.

Actress Kajol asked people to follow five safety rules for ‘staying healthier today in the world’. The actress suggested people to stay indoors in a fun way. Sharing a picture of herself in a car, the actress wrote, “Pull your hands in; windows up; drive that car; go home; don’t step out.”

Wishing her fans World Health Day, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty requested people to take the prevailing COVID-19 situation and their health seriously and mask up. Sharing a small video on her Instagram in which she is seen wearing a face mask, the actress said, “This is here for a reason. It is going to stay put everytime I get out. Please mask up guys. Take it seriously. Take your health seriously.”

Another Bollywood celebrity, Esha Deol talked about taking responsibility of one’s health and making health a priority not only during trying times like the COVID-19 pandemic but at all times. Ms Deol also showed gratitude to healthcare workers and wrote, “Health is our responsibility and being healthy a priority not just in these trying times of battling the COVID-19 virus but we must always make it a point to look after ourselves by staying healthy. I salute our healthcare workers for doing their best in keeping us safe. Thank you. Wishing you all the best of health! Stay fit.”

Actress Rakul Preet Singh marked World Health Day with a special Instagram post and shared her take on staying healthy and happy. Ms Singh shared a picture of herself chilling in nature’s lap and captioned it with a note about staying healthy from the outside as well as on the inside.

“A healthy outside starts from the inside. It’s not about just hitting the gym or looking lean but feeling good about yourself at all times. Choose activities you like doing, let yourself soak in the beauty of nature, feed your body, mind and soul with healthy thoughts and remember keep the inner child in you kicking always! Be crazy, be fun, be random but always be happy”, she wrote.

Actress Aahana Kumra gave the message of taking control of one’s health. Ms Kumra also drew a link between health, happiness and beauty and urged people to ‘just do it’.

“Our greatest wealth is good health”, wrote cricketer Yuvraj Singh and urged people to pledge to stay physically and mentally healthy. Mr Singh also showed his gratitude to healthcare workers leading the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and suggested taking all precautions in the light of rising COVID cases in the country.

“Let’s thank all healthcare workers who’ve been working tirelessly to take care of us & with many rising cases, please continue to take all precautions against #COVID”, he wrote.

On the occasion of World Health Day, South star Akkineni Nagarjuna also mentioned about COVID-19 and urged people to take care of themselves and their loved ones.

The theme for World Health Day 2021 is ‘Building A Fairer, Healthier World’. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), COVID-19 has highlighted, some people are able to live healthier lives and have better access to health services than others – entirely due to the conditions in which they are born, grow, live, work and age. WHO is committed to ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can realize the right to good health. Promoting the same actress-filmmaker Lakshmi Manchu called to come together and raise awareness to ensure everyone has access to quality health services when and where they need them.

“Let’s make a change one person at a time”, she wrote.

Marking World Health Day, Samantha Ruth Prabhu shared a quote from the internet on her Instagram story that read, “As we listen deeper to our bodies and elevate our health as a value in our lives, we walk the earth attuned, resilient and nourished.”

Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee shared a picture in which he is seen exercising at the gym. He captioned the picture as, “I firmly believe that our health is the wealth that we should take utmost care of. Stay fit, stay well.”

NDTV – Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign is an extension of the five-year-old Banega Swachh India initiative helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. It aims to spread awareness about critical health issues facing the country. In wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the need for WASH (WaterSanitation and Hygiene) is reaffirmed as handwashing is one of the ways to prevent Coronavirus infection and other diseases. The campaign highlights the importance of nutrition and healthcare for women and children to prevent maternal and child mortality, fight malnutrition, stunting, wasting, anaemia and disease prevention through vaccines. Importance of programmes like Public Distribution System (PDS), Mid-day Meal Scheme, POSHAN Abhiyan and the role of Aganwadis and ASHA workers are also covered.
