Today, he spoke about sanitary napkins and shunned the taboo associated with it. She wrote, “He spoke about Swacchta & open defaecation in 2014 and changed the way India thought of cleanliness. Today he broke another taboo by speaking about the importance of sanitary napkins. PM @narendramodi Ji is a man who has got the basics right.”

Another user lauded the move and said that PM Modi talking about sanitary napkins will lead to the citizens breaking the walls of conservativism. He wrote, “Breaking all the traditional taboo Respected Modi Ji has spoken about the need & relevance of sanitary Napkins from the Red Fort. When a PM start touching such topics that has been taboo for our society, it means country’s Polity is going to break all the walls of conservativism.”

‘This isn’t just progressive but path breaking too’, said another user and wrote, “Earlier I couldn’t imagine a male forget a male leader speak about menstruation publically. Here, we have the PM of India @narendramodi no less, speaking about providing sanitary pads at 1 rupee from the ramparts of the red fort!”

Another user highlighted the stigma associated with menstruation and how even the words ‘sanitary pads’ are used in hushed tones. However, today, PM Modi talked about it during his address to the nation.
