World Immunization Week 2022: Things To Know

World Immunization Week, celebrated in the last week of April, aims to highlight the collective action needed and to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease

WHO works with countries across the globe to raise awareness of the value of vaccines and immunization and ensures that governments obtain the necessary guidance and technical support to implement high-quality immunization programs.

Without vaccines, everyone is at risk of serious illness and disability from diseases. Two key reasons to get vaccinated are to protect ourselves and to protect those around us.

People with chronic illnesses or treatments that affect their immune system cannot be vaccinated. Those who cannot be vaccinated depend on others getting vaccinated to ensure they are also protected through vaccines

Vaccines contain weakened or inactive parts of a particular germ that triggers an immune response within the body, When you get a vaccine, your immune system kicks into action. It recognises the invading germ and starts producing antibodies to fight it. Afterwards, if you ever come in contact with the same germ, your body's immune system quickly remembers how to destroy it.
