Coronavirus Warriors: 9-Months Pregnant Nurse In Karnataka Continues Her COVID-19 Duty, Wins Many Hearts

New Delhi: ‘Want to serve my people,’ with this thought in her mind, a 9-month expectant mother and a nurse at a hospital in Shivamogga district of Karnataka continues to serve the patients amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Meet Roopa Praveen Rao, who works at Jayachamarajendra Government Hospital as a nurse and travels every day from Gajanuru village to Thirthahalli taluk, which takes her about an hour, simply because she wants to attend to the patients at the hospital at this crucial time.

Talking about what motivated her to take such decision, she said,

The hospital is surrounded by many villages, in these tough times, people need our service. My seniors had asked me to take leave but I want to serve my people at this point in time.

The nine-month pregnant nurse, working on COVID-19 frontline in Karnataka for six hours a day has emerged as a shining example for selfless dedication to work. She has also won praise from Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa who expressed his gratitude towards her services in the hospital and requested her to go on maternity leave.

Roopa, I am amazed to learn about your efforts. It is nice to learn that a woman from my district is putting in so much of efforts. At least now please take rest and return to work after delivery. I humbly request you to take rest from today, the Chief Minister told Roopa over the phone.

Apart from serving in the hospital, the nurse was also deputed to Gajanur in the same district to tackle cases of coronavirus. Till now Shivamogga, which was under the green zone, saw a sudden spurt in cases on Sunday with eight people testing positive and one of them was from Thirthahalli taluk.
