New Delhi: Union Minister Smriti Irani performed ‘Shramdaan’ at Siddha temple ‘Maa Durgan Bhavani Dham’ in her Lok Sabha constituency Amethi, a day ahead of the Pran Pratishta ceremony at Ayodhya Ram Temple. On Saturday (January 21), through a social media post, Ms Irani shared the news and pictures of herself cleaning the temple premises. In a post on X (formerly knowns as Twitter), Ms Irani wrote that she followed PM Narendra Modi’s clarion call made under the ‘Swachh Teerth Abhiyan’.

She wrote, “Today, India is completely conscious of cleanliness and purity ahead of the arrival Lord Shri Ram. Let us maintain this feeling towards cleanliness in our nature. #SwachhTeerth”

Earlier in the day, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also participated in a cleanliness drive under the Swachh Teerth Campaign at Eri Katha Ramar Temple in Madhuranthakam, Tamil Nadu.

A social media post by Nirmala Sitharaman Office on X stated, “Eri Katha Ramar Temple is dedicated to Lord Rama. It was built during the reign of the Pallava Kingdom and is one of the oldest temples of Lord Rama in South India. The temple has inscriptions from the Chola era which calls Rama with the name “Thiru Ayothi Peruman” signifying the link with Ayodhya.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (January 19) visited the historic Mahabhairab Temple in Assam and offered prayers, besides taking part in a cleanliness drive on its premises. The home minister, accompanied by Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, cleaned the temple courtyard. In a video shared on social media, Mr Shah was seen pouring water from a bucket at several places in the courtyard and wiping it with a broom.

On Thursday (January 18), BJP National President JP Nadda cleaned the premises of Delhi’s Pashupati Nath Temple in the Vishwas Nagar area in Delhi.

In the last week, various union ministers and chief ministers have stepped up to support Swachh Teerth Campaign, initiated by PM Modi.

On January 12, during his visit to Maharashtra, PM Modi cleaned the premises of the Kalaram Temple as part of the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. A video, going viral on social media, showed PM Modi mopping the floors of the temple aimed at giving a message of cleanliness to the public.

A campaign to clean pilgrimage sites was started on January 14 and continued until January 22.
