New Delhi: ‘If we all start keeping just 10 yards of our surroundings clean, then definitely in the coming years, India will fulfill its dream of a Swachh Bharat,’ said Actor Anupam Kher who was present at NDTV-Banega Swachh India 12-Hour #Mere10Guz Cleanathon on October 2 to celebrate Rashtriya Swachhta Diwas. Earlier in the day, the actor posted series of videos on his Twitter handle, to tell people what actually #Mere10Guz concept means – see the garbage, think of taking an action, start cleaning.
“On Gandhi Jayanti Sharing few videos with you all for #SwachhataHiSeva campaign by Prime Minister @narendramodi,” added Anupam Kher. The first video the actor posted was of a view near his house which he used to see daily.

From past many days, I was appealing the authorities to cleanup this pile of garbage, but, yesterday, when I saw it still lying there, I stopped my car and started cleaning it myself, said Anupam Kher.

The mantra of the Cleanathon – #Mere10Guz is similar. We keep our homes clean, our shops clean, then why not the roads, questions Anupam Kher.
People have started acting on Swachhta, if somebody drops garbage from their cars, then, people do give them a dirty look. I cleaned up the area near me, because I am aware of Swachh Bharat, there hundreds of others who are doing something or other to keep our country clean. Now, all we need to do is to sustain the efforts and make more and more people aware, as that’s the key for a clean India, added Anupam Kher.
The actor also said, “Nobody knew that India will get freedom on August 15, but we got it, still, our children who were born much after the independence are aware about the history, why, because there is lot of awareness.
Similarly, our country will get freedom from garbage, but, awareness is crucial,” the actor signs off.
NDTV-Banega Swachh India undertook the 12-hour Cleanathon to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 as Rashtriya Swachhta Diwas. This year the agenda of the Cleanathon with Amitabh Bachchan as the Campaign Ambassador was to promote the #Mere10Guz concept which believes that if every Indian cleans up 10 yards of his surroundings, India will become a clean country. This year the scope of #Mere10Guz initiative was widened to include Swachh Zameen (land), Swachh Hawa (air) and Swachh Pani (water).
