Swachh Survekshan 2017: Indore, Bhopal Reflection Of Government’s Commitment Towards Cleanliness, Says CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Bhopal: With Indore and Bhopal emerging as the cleanest cities in the country, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan yesterday said this reaffirms his government’s commitment to make Madhya Pradesh a ‘model state’ in terms of cleanliness and sanitation.

According to the ‘Swachh Survekshan-2017’ announced by Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi today, Indore became the cleanest city in India, while Bhopal bagged the second position in the cleanliness ranking of 434 cities.

Overall, 22 cities in Madhya Pradesh figured among top 100 cleanest cities in the country.

“Swachh Survekshan-2017 Awards reaffirm our commitment to make MP as model state in India for cleanliness, sanitation and waste management practices,” Chief Minister Chouhan said in a tweet.

“Citizens of Indore and Bhopal you have made us proud. You have made your cities the cleanest and best in the entire country,” he further tweeted.

Apart from Indore (1) and Bhopal (2), other cities that figure in the list of top 100 cleanest cities from the state are: Ujjain (12), Khargone (17), Jabalpur (21), Sagar (23), Katni (24), Gwalior (27), Omkareshwar (36), Rewa (38), Ratlam (48), Singrauli (51), Chhindwara (53), Sehore (55), Dewas (58), Hoshangabad (59), Pithampur (61), Khandwa (73), Mandsaur (74), Satna (75), Betul (78) and Chatarpur (92).

Indore Mayor Malini Gaud thanked the citizens for their participation in Indore Municipal Corporation’s cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat campaign and said the civic body would continue it.

We are thankful to the citizens. We actively participated in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Campaign and made this achievement. We will continue our work to improve further, Ms. Gaud said in a release.
