Swachh Survekshan 2019: ‘Keep Your Village As Clean As Your Home,’ Says Actor Ajay Devgn

Launched by Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019, this time will be conducted in around 700 districts and over 17,000 villages

New Delhi: Actor Ajay Devgn has been a vocal advocate of giving up plastic, recycling and for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan movement. Whether it was Maharashtra’s state-wide plastic ban that came into effect in June last year, which saw the actor urge his fans to fight the plastic waste crisis by giving up single-use plastic items and recycling, and now when he took to his social media to spread awareness about the ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019’. The survey of rural India’s cleanliness quotient was launched recently by Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Sharing a video in which Ajay Devgn is seen teaching villagers the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and not just their houses, the actor said on his social media,

Our village is our home, it is our duty to keep it spic and span, just like we keep our homes clean.

Through a video message, which has been released by the Ministry of Drinking, Water and Sanitation, Ajay Devgn further adds,

If your house has a toilet, if your house is clean, but cleanliness quotient is missing from your village, you will fail in gaining in the swachh rankings. This time, taking a step ahead, the focus of the survey will be on solid waste and plastic waste management of the village, so make sure your village and you are Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 ready.

This year, ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019′ was launched a day before the country marked its 73rd Independence Day on August 15. This time, the Survekshan will be three times bigger in scale than the previous edition of the rural sanitation survey. Around 700 districts and over 17,000 villages will be covered under the survey that will be conducted across 34 states and union territories. In the first edition in 2018, the survey covered over 6,000 villages across the country.

The field survey, to rank states and districts based on sanitation level, will be held for 45 days at over 87,000 public places. Five public places in each village will be surveyed under the exercise that will conclude on September 30.

Helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan, the campaign aims to spread awareness about hygiene and sanitation, the importance of building toilets and making India open defecation free (ODF) by October 2019, a target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014.
