New Delhi: On the occasion of National Sports Day, celebrated every year on August 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Fit India Movement and motivated citizens to make fitness an integral part of their daily routine. During his speech, PM Modi shared anecdotes from his life and the benefits of being fit mentally and physically. PM urged the nation to embrace the Fit India movement just like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the nationwide cleanliness campaign, and lead India towards being an ideal nation.

As soon as Prime Minister launched Fit India, people from different walks of life took to social media to lend their support to the cause. Filmmaker Karan Johar congratulated PM and sports minister Kiren Rijiju on the launch of Fit India Movement. He said, “I’m sure this will inspire all Indians in finding easy and fun ways to adapt a fit and healthy lifestyle #FitIndiaMovement”

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, thanked PM for launching Fit India Movement and said, “Fitness is an important aspect of well-being and a happy life. Fitness is preventive and helps promote wellness.”

“Become a part of Fit India Movement and keep yourself healthy”, said Union Minister for Health Dr Harsh Vardhan, who despite leading a busy life takes out time for cycling, running, yoga and other exercises which aids him in being fit and healthy.

Sharing her mantra of ‘Swasth Raho, Mast Raho’ (stay healthy, stay carefree), actor and ardent yoga practitioner, Shilpa Shetty Kundra called out to everyone to join Fit India initiative. The actor believes that in today’s fast-paced life, being fit is as important as breathing.

Showing his support to the Fit India campaign, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar shared a video of him playing tennis and badminton with his friends. Talking about how fun it is to play with friends, Sachin said, “You get to challenge each other, and also stay FIT!”

A former special forces officer of the Army, Major Surendra Poonia made a clarion call to citizens to join Fit India movement. Major Poonia who himself is addicted to fitness said, “A fit, healthy and happy citizen is an asset for the nation and trust me you are the one.”

Cricketer-turned-BJP MP Gautam Gambir expressed his happiness over the increasing culture of fitness in India. He said, ‘Only a fit person can play a sport’

Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) and Chemicals and Fertilizers, took it to social media and shared a video of him cycling. He wrote, “Be fit, inspire to be fit!”

Sharing his video from one of his fitness sessions, boxer Manoj Kumar took the fitness pledge.

Taking the fitness pledge, Indian swimmer Virdhawal Khade says, “Fitness is very important to get the most out of your body and also to prolong your career in sports! Fitness is eating the right things, resting well and putting in the hard work every day. I am taking the pledge, are you?”

Food Instagrammer Meghna too shared a glimpse from her training session. Though Meghna’s fitness journey started five years ago, she hopes that others start it today, if not already.

NDTV – Dettol Banega Swachh India campaign lends support to the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). Helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan, the campaign aims to spread awareness about hygiene and sanitation, the importance of building toilets and making India open defecation free (ODF) by October 2019, a target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014. Over the years, the campaign has widened its scope to cover issues like air pollutionwaste managementplastic banmanual scavenging and menstrual hygiene. The campaign has also focused extensively on marine pollutionclean Ganga Project and rejuvenation of Yamuna, two of India’s major river bodies.
