New Delhi: Today (June 21), across the globe is being celebrated as International Day of Yoga (IDY). This year, for the first time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the ninth annual celebrations for International Yoga Day at the United Nations headquarters in New York. For International Yoga Day 2023, the theme is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ which encapsulates to “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” As the world celebrates Yoga Day 2023, here’s a look at how B-town celebs are celebrating the occasion. Many celebs took to their social media to wish and inspire their fans to adopt Yoga as part of their daily lifestyle. Here’s a quick look:

Actor and Yogi Malaika Arora shared a small video with the followers in which she is seen performing her favourite Yoga asanas. Sharing the video, she said,

Yoga is quieting your mind, it is like calming your nerves, Accepting yourself and developing strength, growth and love. Wishing everyone a happy International Yoga Day.

Malaika Arora captioned her video on social media as, “This is my point of view, what’s yours.”

“It all starts on the MAT,” says Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan as she wishes her fan International Yoga Day. The actor shared a series of picture of her Husband & Actor Saif Ali Khan along with both sons – Jeh and Taimur Ali Khan. She said, “Heal,Inspire, Love. Happy International Yoga Day. Just, keep moving.”

Actor Shilpa Shetty also shared a short video on her social media in which she is seen performing Yoga asanas. In the video message, Ms Shilpa Shetty said,

Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu, this yog mantra is a prayer for all beings everywhere, to be happy and free. I pray, the thoughts, words and actions of my own life can help contribute towards that happiness and freedom for all. This Yoga Day, I encourage all to make yoga and meditation a part of your daily life, which will help you lead a happy and healthy life. Swasth Raho, Mast Raho.

Ms Shetty captioned the video, saying,

Happy international day of yoga! A spark of a smile can spread the fire of happiness around us. But to be able to do so, one needs to be happy within. Make Yoga a part of your lives too, for a healthy mind, body, and soul. As they say, a healthy person is a happy person. Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy Yoga Day.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher also shared an International Yoga Day special video with fans and followers on social media. Anupam Kher is one of the actors who does not take his health for granted. The actor posted a video featuring him performing yoga asanas, and attending sessions to pose with Yoga gurus.

Sharing the video, he wrote,

Actor Neetu Kapoor on the other hand was seen performing yoga with daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, granddaughter Samara Kapoor Sahni. Ms Kapoor’s daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni took to Instagram and shared visuals of herself performing yoga along with her mother and daughter. In the post, she said,

About International Yoga Day

The idea to adopt International Yoga Day was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his maiden address at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014. Back then, he said, the ancient Indian tradition as an invaluable gift to humankind. In December 2014, all 193 UN member states unanimously agreed to observe the International Day of Yoga on June 21, highlighting that the day holds importance as it helps motivate individuals to make healthier choices. And ever since, June 21 is being marked as International Day Of Yoga across the globe.

This year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the ninth annual celebrations for the International Yoga Day in New York, where people from more than 180 countries will participate.

NDTV – Dettol have been working towards a clean and healthy India since 2014 via the Banega Swachh India initiative, which is helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. The campaign aims to highlight the inter-dependency of humans and the environment, and of humans on one another with the focus on One Health, One Planet, One Future – Leaving No One Behind. It stresses on the need to take care of, and consider, everyone’s health in India – especially vulnerable communities – the LGBTQ populationindigenous people, India’s different tribes, ethnic and linguistic minorities, people with disabilities, migrants, geographically remote populations, gender and sexual minorities. In wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the need for WASH (WaterSanitation and Hygiene) is reaffirmed as handwashing is one of the ways to prevent Coronavirus infection and other diseases. The campaign will continue to raise awareness on the same along with focussing on the importance of nutrition and healthcare for women and children, fight malnutrition, mental wellbeing, self care, science and health, adolescent health & gender awareness. Along with the health of people, the campaign has realised the need to also take care of the health of the eco-system. Our environment is fragile due to human activity, which is not only over-exploiting available resources, but also generating immense pollution as a result of using and extracting those resources. The imbalance has also led to immense biodiversity loss that has caused one of the biggest threats to human survival – climate change. It has now been described as a “code red for humanity.” The campaign will continue to cover issues like air pollutionwaste managementplastic banmanual scavenging and sanitation workers and menstrual hygiene. Banega Swasth India will also be taking forward the dream of Swasth Bharat, the campaign feels that only a Swachh or clean India where toilets are used and open defecation free (ODF) status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and the country can become a Swasth or healthy India.
