I realised, whatever we throw into the Sea, comes back to the earth in some or the other form. It was then I decided to go green and celebrate the biggest festival of the year Ganesh Chaturthi in an eco-friendly way,” said Sachin Tendulkar in the video in which he is seen immersing the idol at home in a bucket of water.
“It was a big decision for us,” Sachin added. “So, I asked my parents and my Guruji who helps us in the Puja that if this can be done. They all agreed as they also felt that we should take care of our environment.
In the end, requesting his fans to celebrate the festivities in an eco-friendly manner, Sachin Tendulkar said,
This year, we immersed our Bappa at home in an eco-friendly way and I would request you to do the same too. I believe that God would want us to take care of our Mother Earth and an eco-friendly celebration of #GaneshChaturthi is the way forward. #GanpatiBappaMorya

Helmed by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan, the campaign aims to spread awareness about hygiene and sanitation, the importance of building toilets and making India open defecation free (ODF) by October 2019, a target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014. Over the years, the campaign has widened its scope to cover issues like air pollution, waste management, plastic ban, manual scavenging and menstrual hygiene. The campaign has also focused extensively on marine pollution, clean Ganga Project and rejuvenation of Yamuna, two of India’s major river bodies.
