‘Heroes Of Mumbai’ Tag For Coronavirus Warriors, Western Railway Pays Tribute Through Wall Murals

New Delhi: Mahim Railway station in Mumbai has undergone an arty facelift as Western Railway pays tribute to the real heroes – the frontline workers who have and are working relentlessly in the time of coronavirus crisis. These frontline workers such as police, doctors, healthcare workers, vegetable sellers, delivery persons and sanitation workers have now covered the walls of Mahim Railway Station and have been given the tag of ‘Heroes of Mumbai’.

Western Railway in collaboration with St+art India Foundation and a paint company had undertaken this beautification drive at the station, where artists covered the exterior facades of Railway building as well as the exterior boundary wall. Speaking about the initiative, Rahul Maurya, an artist said,

This is a tribute to the corona warriors, and we are very grateful to them as they risked their lives to save ours. We have to take proper precautions in order to stay safe, as the virus will be with us for long.

Another artist who participated in the drive added,

The paintings are of frontline warriors. We salute them for their services at such times, and they are our heroes. We have been painting from the past 10-12 days.

An official from Western Railway talking about the railway station that gets the footfall of approximately 1.5 lakh people on a daily basis in natural circumstances said,

The murals at the railway station celebrate the work of ‘Heroes of Mumbai’, which are these frontline workers who have done their best in curbing down this unprecedented calamity. Lockdown will get lifted at some point of time, things will get back to normal someday, these wall arts will be the reminder to everyone about the coronavirus pandemic and the sacrifice made by these frontline heroes so that no one forgets the work done by them.

Talking about the spread of coronavirus disease in India’s financial capital – Mumbai, the rate at which coronavirus cases are coming in the city seems to be slowing down.

According to the data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the daily growth in the number of COVID cases in Mumbai has fallen to 2.43 per cent consistently for a week, which is lower than the national rate of 3.3 per cent. Mumbai’s daily growth rate was 2.7 per cent a week ago. According to the public health department data of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, or the BMC, the rate at which cases are doubling also improved to 29 days, as on June 17, up from 20 days on June 3.

As per the data by the health ministry, Maharashtra is India’s first and only state so far that has reported more than 1 lakh coronavirus cases, including 62,875 from Mumbai.
