India Comes Together To Mark Nationwide Cleanliness Drive, Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath Ahead Of Gandhi Jayanti

PM Modi appealed for one hour of ‘Shramdaan for Swachhata’ at 10 a.m. on October 1 by all citizens.

New Delhi: India came together to participate in the mega cleanliness and dedicate one hour to cleanliness on October 1, after Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi initiated a unique clarion call of ’Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ under the ongoing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, appealing for one hour of voluntary participation from citizens from 10 a.m. onwards.

Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath campaign is a mega cleanliness drive to mark the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. This initiative is a run-up to the ‘Swachhata Pakhwada- Swachhata Hi Seva’ 2023 campaign. PM Modi appealed for one hour of ‘Shramdaan for Swachhata’ at 10 a.m. on October 1 by all citizens. The Prime Minister said that the cleanliness drive will be a Swachhanjali to Mahatma Gandhi on his 154th birth anniversary.

Here’s how the cleanliness drive was marked across India:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the mega cleanliness drive, saying,

Swachh Bharat is a shared responsibility, and every effort counts.

PM Modi was joined by fitness influencer Ankit Baiyanpuria. Sharing the video from the Swachh Bharat drive, the Prime Minister wrote,

Today, as the nation focuses on Swachhata, Ankit Baiyanpuriya and I did the same! Beyond just cleanliness, we blended fitness and well-being also into the mix. It is all about that Swachh and Swasth Bharat vibe!

 

Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi participated in ‘Swacchta Abhiyan’ (cleanliness drive) at Ambedkar Basti, in Delhi’s Shahdara. Talking about the drive, Union Minister Lekhi said that the BJP party has consistently worked towards cleanliness and improving sanitation facilities at the Basti.

BJP National President JP Nadda visited the Basti and participated in the cleanliness drive. He said,

Many of our workers across the country are participating in the Swacchta Abhiyan. Today I have come to Ambedkar Basti to participate in the Swacchta Abhiyan and I am happy to be here. I am sure this Swachhata Abhiyan, a vision of Mahatma Gandhi, will be carried forward with the same energy.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde participated in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programme organised by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at Girgaon Chowpatty, Mumbai and interacted with children in the area.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ programme at Sewri, Mumbai.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ (cleanliness drive) in Ahmedabad. He was seen cleaning the society area loathed with bags of plastic and other solid waste material.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary participated in the cleanliness drive organised at Harijan Primary School, Alam Nagar, Lucknow. On the occasion, the Deputy CM also paid tribute to the architect of the Constitution, ‘Bharat Ratna’ Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, by garlanding his statue.

In Bihar, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad participated in the cleanliness drive organised under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign in Patna.

In Gujarat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the ‘Shramdaan for cleanliness’ programme under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign in Ahmedabad. Talking about the initiative by the Prime Minister, the Union Minister said,

Prime Minister Modi ji is doing a great job of converting all the countrymen with Gandhiji’s ideas of cleanliness and converting ‘cleanliness’ into their lifestyle and values.

Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw participated in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign in Haryana’s Gurugram.

‘Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ campaign was marked by the Department Of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, in Shaheedi Chowk, Kathua.

Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created a beautiful sand art showcasing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, at Puri Beach.

Here is how the Cantonment Board under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence marked the ‘Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ campaign.

Vice Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) & Chief Innovation Officer, Dr Abhay Jere, marked ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.

The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare participated in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, by cleaning the glass windows of the Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) building.

Swachata ke liye shramdaan was conducted by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Mysore District, Karnataka.

Member Admin of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and Special Secretary Alok Shukla and a team of officers along with local residents participated in cleaning Urkaliar River in Shillong.

Indian Air Force Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari took part in cleanliness activities near Air Headquarters-Vayu Bhawan in New Delhi.

Our environment is fragile due to human activity, which is not only over-exploiting available resources, but also generating immense pollution as a result of using and extracting those resources. The imbalance has also led to immense biodiversity loss that has caused one of the biggest threats to human survival – climate change. It has now been described as a “code red for humanity.” The campaign will continue to cover issues like air pollution, waste management, plastic ban, manual scavenging and sanitation workers and menstrual hygiene. Banega Swasth India will also be taking forward the dream of Swasth Bharat, the campaign feels that only a Swachh or clean India where toilets are used and open defecation free (ODF) status achieved as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, can eradicate diseases like diahorrea and the country can become a Swasth or healthy India.
