Explaining about the theme of World Environment Day 2018 and how each one of us can contribute, Dia added,
The theme of this years’ world environment day is Beat Plastic Pollution – as we all know that plastic is a non-biodegradable substance, most of the plastic items can last in the environment for upto 500 years. And plastic pollution is the huge-huge problem. Many of us in our everyday lives use plastic unthinkably. We can change that. This year’s theme will only be a success if each one of us can find ways to implement active lifestyle choices and make a difference in the everyday life.

From quite awhile, Dia Mirza has been vocal about plastic pollution and has done her bit for the environment – she has shunned usage of plastic from her life and recently at IIFA press conference in Delhi, taking a step further, she convinced her friends in the film fraternity – Karan Johar, Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Kartik Aaryan, to give up the use of plastic bottles. The actor feels that this move by her friends will help in influencing and inspiring millions of followers that these stars have.
