Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir becomes ODF

Jammu: With the construction of 1.02 lakh toilets, the border district of Rajouri in Jamu and Kashmir has become Open Defecation Free (ODF), an official of the district administration said.

The district has registered 100 per cent physical achievement in Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen (SBM-G) with the construction of these 1.02 lakh toilets, he added. The border district moved from 23 per cent physical coverage in November 2017 to achieve 100 per cent coverage with completion of 1.02 lakh individual household latrine (IHHL) units in a record time this week, the official said.

He said all the families identified in the survey were provided toilet units under a well targeted and convergent campaign involving rural communities and government departments.

He said 75 per cent geo-tagging and uploading of photographs was completed.

The official said the campaign was spearheaded by the rural development department and the ODF status was achieved after massive mobilisation of rural communities and institutions like Aanganwadi workers and cooperative societies.

District Development Comissioner Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said the convergent participation of different stakeholders had led the district to achieve the ODF status.
