Waste Management In Melody: This Song Traces The Problem Of Plastic Pollution Across Beaches And Cities

New Delhi:Plastic is there in our cities, our oceans, and now, even, our heart has become unemotional like plastic,’ that was 35-year-old Bollywood Singer – Shree D’s emotions after he started working with Environmentalist Afroz Shah at Mumbai’s cleanest beach – Versova Beach. After one and a half month of regular beach clean-up, Shree thought of putting his emotions into a song and this gave birth to the newly launched #BeatPlasticPollution song. The song was shared with netizens by Afroz Shah on his social media platform, he adds,

We worked hard. We sweated. We loved. Then @Shreed_ and @Ritesh_Menon arrived as volunteers. These creative geniuses translated our feelings into a beautiful music video. Music and nature are deep and basic.

The song comes at a time when Mumbai is gearing up for a mass clean-up drive at Versova on May 27 along with 5,000 Mumbaikars to officially kick-starts the 45th World Environment Day celebrations for which India is the host country with the theme Beat Plastic Pollution.

Shree D talking to NDTV about his musical journey and what inspired him to come out with such a song, he said,

What Afroz Shah and thousands of people do every week at Versova is sheer madness and their love for the oceans. This song simply portrays that.

He further said,

When I met Afroz Shah, I was so inspired that I thought of becoming a part of this great change in my own way. I am a musician by profession, I wanted to spread the message of plastic pollution through a song and that’s what motivated me.

Shree D’s appeal through his song is simple, he wants everyone to come together and do their bit for the environment and make it beautiful all over again as humans are only responsible for making the country dirty.

Shree Signs off by saying,

Marine debris affects the humanity and the ocean, we must do our bit to reduce this.

Shree’s song has already got a thumbs up from actor Dia Mirza, praising his efforts, the actor said,

“We can be lawyers, actors, singers, students and still be nature lovers! Here is a testament of that love. Kudos @AfrozShah1 @Shreed_ and @Ritesh_Menon and all the volunteers! This is all heart. #BeatPlasticPollution #CleanSeas”
