In A First, Smart Toilets With Swanky Cafes And ATM Services Make Their Debut In Hyderabad

New Delhi: What comes to your mind when you think of a public toilet? Clogged drains, smelly, filthy and unfit for use? But, what if we tell you that there is a public toilet in our country that has swanky cafés and ATM services inside it. Too good to be true? Well, the city of nawabs – Hyderabad has turned this into a reality. Recently, the first Loo Café, was inaugurated by Telangana IT and industries minister, KT Rama Rao, in Hi-Tec City, that has been set up across a space measuring 170 sq. ft. at an investment of over Rs 10 lakh.

This unique idea of Loo Café has been conceptualised by a Hyderabad-based company, Ixora FM in collaboration with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Sharing the pictures of the smart toilets in Hyderabad with netizens, Minister KT Rama said,

Another innovative initiative of @GHMCOnline ‘Loo Cafe’ in a PPP mode. 100 more to come up in Hyderabad. It’s a Loo & a fabulous Cafe; all in one.

Facilities Included In Loo Café

The Loo café is made of pre-fabricated-wood which is fireproof, insect-proof and CCTV cameras equipped. It has three different washrooms that can be used by men, women and the differently-abled, a café and a space allocated for ATM. Moreover, the toilets are armed with smart facilities like Wi-Fi, centrally air-conditioned, a dedicated radio station on ‘hygiene’ and Swachh Telangana, facial recognition software for enhanced security and a sanitary napkin dispenser.

Speaking to the reporters, during the launch of the Loo Café, Ixora FM founder and CEO Abhishek Nath said,

A common notion about public toilets is that they are unhygienic, unclean and filthy. Through Loo Café, we wanted to change this. Loo Café is secure, clean, moreover, have smart facilities for the general public. The best part is that one can use the toilet without paying any money. The complex will be maintained through the revenues we generate by the adjoining café.

Future Plans

After the successful implementation of one Loo Café, the company now aims to set up 100 more in next six months across different public spaces in Hyderabad. Along with Hyderabad, the company also plans to expand this sustainable model across other cities like Mumbai, Indore, Pune, Chennai and Mohali.
