Poshan Month: People From Across The Nation Lead The Fight Against Malnutrition By Participating in ‘Poshan Maah 2019’

September began with people from across India participating in various activities to mark ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ or National Nutrition Month aimed at raising awareness to help India become malnutrition-free by 2022

New Delhi: “Across the country #PoshanAbhiyaan is being made a mass movement in modern and scientific ways,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted thanking and congratulating people who participated in kick-starting the Rashtiya Poshan Maah or National Nutrition Month celebrations to last through September, with people from all walks of life participating and contributing towards reaffirming the target of a malnutrition-free India by 2022.

Let’s take a look at how different states, cities and districts across the nation kicked off the Poshan Month.

Women in Manipur’s Thoubal took charge of the Abhiyan and led a Poshan march to promote the importance of nutrition.

In Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, all government and non-government institutions came together to appeal for a “malnutrition free, healthy and strong India”

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma launched the initiative in Tura.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das launched Poshan Maah in Ranchi by addressing the A gathering and informing them about the Abhiyan

“Different districts of Assam #PoshanMaah2019 Celebration is being organised, under which people are being made aware about eradicating malnutrition by organising awareness rally.”

Tripura on the other hand saw a huge gathering which was addressed by the state Social Welfare Minister, Santana Chakman who launched the Poshan Program

In Punjab’s Rupnagar district, infants up to 6-months of age were checked up at the anganwadi centres

The Poshan Abhiyan in Haryana saw more than 1M200 enthusiastic people come together to celebrate at the inauguration ceremony

In Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, the Anganwadi workers kick-started the Poshan maah with a Poshan pledge to lead the fight against Malnutrition and Anaemia.

Minister of Social Welfare for Mizoram, Dr. K. Beichhua launched the initiative in Aizawal.

In Bihar, expecting mothers learnt about diversifying diets and consuming sufficient nutrients during pregnancy.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a month-long nutrition drive in the state, he tweeted,

“Today, under the ‘Child Suraksha Utsav’, health tests of some healthy, malnourished children and women were collectively conducted, along with community activities like Godabhrai and Annaprashan were organized and nutrition packets were distributed to the adolescent girls. #PoshanMaah2019 “

Poshan Maah 2019:

September is being observed as the Rashtriya Poshan Maah or National Nutrition Month under the POSHAN Abhiyan (National Nutrition Mission) launched in March 2018 to improve nutritional status of children up to 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers to achieve a malnutrition free India by 2022. As part of the Poshan Maah, the government will be organising a wide range of activities focussing on five aspects of nutrition – first 1,000 days in the life of a child, fight against anaemia and diarrhea, personal hygiene and knowledge of what is nutritious.
